Warm ups: did lip buzzes. Felt good and open. I did "Zi-ah" and felt ok. I am struggling to maintain focus on the more open vowels in my upper mid range especially. So I did some vowel tuning, which kinda helped. I had a LOT of phlegm today. I felt the need to clear my throat after every step up.
Went through my op-shop solos today. In the Sorceress stuff I was feeling pretty good. I was having issues with some of the Cs and so I tried to focus on keeping the right placement for them even if the vowel was an open one. I had really good focus on the lower Es and Ds.
I went through the beastly Falstaff. I did the notes really slowly. And I have decided I need to spend 5 hours on this sucker probably to get it where it needs to be. The notes aren't the problem. I actually love where it sites in my voice. But I really need to tap out the rhythm alone and then speak the Italian slowly and then in rhythm. Yikesers.
Went through Laurie's song a few times. I felt pretty good about it. Marked some places that I need to maintain focus. Also on "I have dreamt" Mostly same issues with focus and phlegm.
I noticed some lip tension today in my efforts to find the right focus. Sigh. Maybe it will be easier when I'm not still coughing.
My throat is dry and scratchy now. Boo.
